In 2010 the foundation for the Indonesian Waste Platform was laid in East Indonesia on Flores island. Since then our stakeholder network has evolved into a nationwide and international network, connecting stakeholders from all sectors for collaboration on solutions for the waste problems on land, in freshwater bodies and the ocean.
Solving the waste problems in Indonesia is complex and is the responsibility of all individuals and institutions. A collective approach, multi-sector and across-border stakeholder engagement, continuous communication and synergy in agendas are needed to achieve the goal of reducing 70% of Marine Plastic Waste in Indonesia by 2040.
Since 2010 we have initiated and facilitated countless connections and collaborations between stakeholders, both national and international.
We are co-founding member of the International Waste Platform (2018).
Indonesian Waste Platform under the umbrella of Sustainable Futures Indonesia
In 2026 we decided that “sustainable futures” requires focussing not only on waste, litter, waste management and waste literacy. That is why we broaden our scope of work at Sustainable Futures Indonesia to other fields, while continuing our work to mitigate the waste crisis. The Indonesian Waste Platform remains an Indonesian registered NGO.
